Copper gutters are the rain-handling system Palm Beach’s finest homes have trusted for generations — and for good reason. Solid copper doesn’t rust, never needs paint, and shrugs off the salt air that eats aluminum and steel alive along the coast. Hung in the traditional half-round profile and joined with hand-soldered seams, a copper gutter is less a gutter than a piece of architectural metalwork — one that routinely outlives the roof beneath it.

There’s a reason copper is the island standard. On the Town of Palm Beach’s historic estates, ARCOM and the Landmarks Preservation Commission expect rainwater goods in kind — copper gutters, copper downspouts, and copper conductor heads — and routinely deny aluminum substitutions on a designated property. We fabricate to that standard whether your home is a landmarked oceanfront estate or a mainland house where you simply want a gutter you’ll never replace. Not everything sold as “copper” is the gutter you want on a Palm Beach home. Four things do the real work:

• Solid copper, by weight. Specify 16 oz copper as the standard, stepping up to 20 oz on long runs and exposed coastal elevations. “Copper-colored” aluminum and thin copper-plated stock are not the same thing and won’t age the same way.
• Hand-soldered seams. A true copper gutter is joined with solder at every seam, miter, and outlet — not crimped and caulked. Sealant is what fails first on a cheaper gutter; a soldered joint stays watertight for the life of the metal.
• The right profile and hangers. Half-round copper rides in cast bronze or copper brackets; K-style uses concealed copper hangers. Either way the carriers must be copper or bronze — never plain steel — and spaced for Florida’s downpours.
• Isolation from dissimilar metals. Copper against aluminum or bare steel sets up galvanic corrosion. We fasten with copper or stainless, isolate dissimilar metals, and keep copper runoff off finishes it can stain — the details a craft shop sweats and a quick installer ignores.

Profile, gauge, and detailing all move the price, which is why we measure and quote on site rather than over the phone.
